NIPUN Bharat Yojana: Every child deserves the gift of learning — the joy of reading their first story, writing their first sentence, and solving their first math problem with confidence. But for many young children in India, this simple dream often becomes a struggle. To change this, the Government of India launched the NIPUN Bharat Abhiyan (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
This mission carries a powerful goal: by the year 2026–27, every child in the country should have achieved foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) by the end of Class 3. In simple words, no child should be left behind when it comes to the basics of education — पढ़ना, लिखना और गिनती करना.
The Vision Behind NIPUN Bharat
Education is not just about passing exams; it is about building strong roots in the early years. NIPUN Bharat focuses on children between the ages of 3 to 9, ensuring they learn to read with understanding, write with clarity, and solve basic mathematical problems with ease. These skills become the foundation for all future learning, helping children succeed not just in school, but also in life.
How the Mission Works
The government has created a detailed roadmap for this campaign. Central and state governments are working together to make it a reality. Teachers are being trained to use activity-based and play-based learning methods, making classrooms more joyful and interactive for children. Parents too are being encouraged to become active partners in their child’s education journey.
To ensure proper funding and smooth execution, the scheme is being carried out under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Along with traditional methods, technology and digital tools are also being introduced to make learning more engaging. A special National Mission framework has been set up to monitor and track progress across schools.
Why NIPUN Bharat Matters
When children build a strong educational base at an early age, they grow into more confident learners. The benefits of this scheme go beyond just classrooms:
- It helps reduce school dropouts by making learning easier and enjoyable.
- It ensures equal learning opportunities, especially for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- By building strong foundations, it improves future employability and empowers the youth.
- Most importantly, it nurtures curious, confident, and independent young minds who can think, question, and dream big.
As the saying goes, “If the roots are strong, the tree stands tall.” In the same way, NIPUN Bharat is about strengthening the roots of education in India.

A Shared Responsibility
While the government is playing its part, the success of NIPUN Bharat also depends on teachers, parents, and society as a whole. Teachers must adopt creative methods, parents need to encourage learning at home, and communities should create supportive environments. Only then can we truly achieve the dream of universal literacy and numeracy.
The NIPUN Bharat Abhiyan is more than just a scheme — it is a movement to secure the future of India’s children. By ensuring that every child can read, write, and do basic math by Class 3, the nation is taking a historic step towards educational equality and empowerment.
With dedication, teamwork, and compassion, we can make sure that हर बच्चा पढ़ेगा, हर बच्चा बढ़ेगा.
